Hi friends! I’m starting a new ritual. Feel free to join me, or silently observe.
It’s called the “Creative Act.” In a time where the entire globe is connected, it’s easy to see the world’s most brilliant creators and dismiss ourselves as relatively unartistic, unskilled, or uncreative. But creativity is something innate in you, whether you see it or not. So let’s dig deep and embrace our inner artist!
To participate, create and share (if desired) a work of art, or “Creative Act,” every day. A “Creative Act” is:
- A doodle on a napkin
- A simple haiku
- The performance of a song in your lesson book
- A balloon animal
- A cleaned living room
- A joke
- An advertisement
- A new recipe
- Absolutely any other expression of yourself
When you perform a Creative Act, you share a glimpse of your inner world. With your unique DNA and life experiences, you take the raw matter of the universe and construct a pattern of atoms and thoughts that can be made only by you.
Perceived quality, effort, and marketability don’t matter here. This is practice, not necessarily of your specific craft (though it can be), but of authentic self expression.
Today I begin. This manifesto you’re reading is my first “Creative Act.” If you join in, feel free to post your Acts anywhere with the hashtag #CreativeAct. Or keep it to yourself! After participating for a while, you’ll have a collection of creations and performances, permanent or temporary, that you can be proud of.
